What is “Avoska” and where did it come from?

The history of “Avoska” goes back to the 1920s, to the Czech town of Žďár nad Sázavou where Vavřín Krčil, a local enterpreneur, started to produce hair nets for women. But for some reason things did not go well, so he decided to attach handles to the nets and sell them as shopping bags.

“Avoska” can without question be considered a real symbol of the XXth century. These long-forgotten shopping bags were just a must-have for making purchases, as they were rather capacious and took up very little space when folded. Almost every Soviet person had such a bag with them just in case (“avos”) they could obtain something. But, as you know, everything old is new again …

Fashion is cyclic, the time has come for a new trend – the revived Avoska. Having received a new life, they migrated to the main catwalks and to the collections of all fashionistas. Now it’s taken to fashion shows or cocktail parties, for shopping and to the beach. On the net it is called a “French shopping bag”.

In the spring of 2018, various options of avoska were presented at fashion shows in the collections of such world brands as Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana and Maison Margiela. The trend was picked up by manufacturers of mass market goods Zara, Mango, Topshop.

More and more advanced users living in the zero-waste style give preference to them instead of plastic bags that get easily torn and pollute the environment. Stylish eco bags, shopper bags are an integral part of environmentally conscious people.

Let’s take care of the environment today in order to keep our Planet in its best form.
